Described as ‘One of the funniest writers in Britain’ by the Daily Mail, Michael is the go-to man for the real behind-the-scenes stories on all matters showbiz. He has written two best-selling books on the profession, WHAT’S MY MOTIVATION (described by Craig Brown as ‘screamingly funny’) and more recently THE RULES OF ACTING, a modern manual of how to get by as an actor (hailed by Tim Rice as ‘terrifyingly accurate.’). His best-selling sporting memoir, FATTY BATTER, describing his childhood as a fat kid growing up during the 1960’s in a Brighton sweetshop was shortlisted for the 2007 Costa Book Prize.

Michael is also a well-known face on the west end stage and television, with leading roles including Sam Carmichael in Mamma Mia, Billy Flynn in Chicago, and Sir Humphrey in Yes Prime Minister.  On TV he’s appeared in hundreds of roles, usually playing policemen or unsuspecting husbands: but is best known as Hugh Read in Foyle’s War, Steve Lowe in Eastenders, and Keith in Finding Alice. Films include V for Vendetta, Topsy-Turvy, The Iron Lady, and The Crown for Netflix.

Michael is also a familiar voice on Radio 4. An experienced raconteur, he has appeared at venues as diverse as Lords cricket ground and The Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-Upon-Avon, as well as on transatlantic cruises.

As Sir Ian McKellen once said: ‘It’s thrilling Michael is having such success as a writer - anything to keep him off the stage…’
